Why is the rate on the bank's own site different?
We show the rate from the tariff document and the date we read it. If the bank changed its terms today, our figure updates within a day. A rate older than the freshness window is withdrawn rather than shown as current.
What is the effective rate?
The rate with compounding included. If interest is added to the principal it starts earning too: 24% compounded monthly is 26.82% in practice. That is the figure two deposits can honestly be compared on.
Do banks pay you for placement?
A position in this list cannot be bought — the sort is always by effective rate. If paid placement appears, it will sit outside the list and be labelled.
